Reading problems and dyslexia
Reading is a very complex skill, it is truly amazing that so many children master it so easily. There are many different ways of teaching reading and some children need to be taught by a specific method- often different to the one that their school uses. Some children have a weakness in one of the developmental skills essential for successful reading. These skills can be developed in therapy, or teaching strategies can be identified that use your child`s strengths to help them learn to read.
Learning to read can be difficult if your child has problems with:
- Language development
- Phonetic awareness
- Visual memory
- Auditory processing
- Sensory integration
- Sequencing
- Concentration & attention
- Working memory
There are many different programs available to help your child read, but it is important to choose the right program for your child. Therapy 4 Learning will help you find the right program for your child, and for your budget.
Reading problems at high school
Some kids learn to read, they struggle on but their reading is slow and laborious, they have trouble comprehending what they read. They may also have difficulties with spelling. These kids usually have weaknesses in the areas listed above and respond well to therapy, often results can be seen in as little as two months.
