The SLEEPS program is a comprehensive sleep training and sleep coaching program, the program assesses a broad range of factors, and devices highly individualised programs. This is not a one size fits all program. The SLEEPS program is an evidence based program, based on understanding the physiology of sleep and the unique sensory, emotional and environmental needs of clients and their families. it is based on understanding the unique physical needs of the person and their family.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THE SLEEPS PROGRAM. The SLEEPS program was initially designed for children with developmental delay, autism, separation anxiety, ADHD, and /or PDA. Due to its comprehensive and individualised nature it is suitable for adults and for people with a broad range of sleep challenges. It is also useful for families where the parents are experiencing ASD or other mental health problems, as it can plan a sleep training program that takes into account the need of other family members. It has proved to be particularly useful for adults with Bipolar disorder, where changes in sleep patterns often lead to relapse and hospitalisation.
DOES SLEEPS USE MEDICATION. The program is focused on meeting the sensory, emotional and physiological needs of the person to optimise their sleep. Due to difference in sleep signals in Autistic people we do sometimes recommend the use of Melatonin, but not always and it is not essential. We do not prescribe any drugs or medications.
The SLEEPS program works with parents to understand their child’s sleep challenges, and to devise a sleep training program that suits the child and family. We then coach the parent through implementing the program and we are there to problem solve and tweak the sleep training and environment as necessary. The program is offered online, this works well as it allows maximum flexibility and the chance to meet your child, and see the child’s bedroom or other sleep environment.
